Platforms/Versions

Color Finesse 2.1.10 and earlier on Windows, with QuickTime for Windows 7.6.4.

Problem

Invoking the full Color Finesse UI gives an erroneous error message about needing QuickTime 7.0.2 or later, when such a version of QuickTime is already installed.

Requires QuickTime 7.0.2 or Later Error Dialog

Because the behavior of QuickTime in this case is unexpected (it says it initialized, but didn't really) you may see an additional error message:

Could Not Allocate Thread Local Data Error Dialog

In both cases, just click OK to return to After Effects.

This error occurs only with QuickTime for Windows 7.6.4 installed.

Solution

While the cause of the problem is QuickTime 7.6.4 itself, you can work around the issue by installing Color Finesse 2.1.11 which preloads one of QuickTime's own DLLs to avoid the error.

You can download the latest version of Color Finesse from the Downloads page.

Moving back to an earlier version of QuickTime will also resolve this problem, should you not wish to upgrade Color Finesse for some reason.
